The Warriors are looking forward to seeing one of their own face the World in this year’s Olympic games in Beijing in Carmelo Anthony.

NBC.com — One of the final five players named to the 2004 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team, Carmelo Anthony has blossomed into arguably Team USA’s best player since. At the Athens Games, he played in seven of the U.S.’s eight games, averaging just 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.8 minutes a game.

But at the 2006 World Championships, for which he was named a tri-captain with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, Anthony led the team in scoring with 19.9 points in 23.9 minutes as the U.S. went 8-1 and won bronze. His average and total points in the tournament (179) rank No. 2 for an American player at a world championships, and his 35 points against Italy set a U.S. single-game scoring record. Later that year Anthony was named the 2006 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.

Born in Brooklyn but raised in Baltimore, he first attended Towson Catholic (Md.) High School before transferring to Oak Hill, which he led to a 32-1 record and a No. 3 final ranking by USA Today in 2001-02.
