Juwan Staten’s Diary #6 – So Far, So Good

By Juwan Staten

Throughout the 2009-2010 season, OakHillHoops.com will feature personal stories from our players.

So Far, So Good

JuwanDecember 15, 2009 — Today is the last day before semester exams. It has been the toughest week of school since we’re all looking forward to Christmas break starting on Saturday. A lot of us have already packed our bags mentally, so studying for exams seems that much harder.

So far the season is going good. We are 13-0 and playing at a high level. We won our game at home last night by 24 points, despite playing without one of our leading scorers, Roscoe Smith, who was out with a twisted ankle. Keith Hornsby stepped in and we played fairly well.

As of right now, as a team, we are shooting the highest free throw percentage in Oak Hill history (but just barely). So hopefully, we can keep that up.

Our next game is Friday night at home, then we bus to Ohio and play Walnut Ridge High School and Cincinnati Princeton who has Jordan Siebert (a highly ranked shooting guard) that will match up against Doron Lamb (also a highly ranked shooting guard).

After the two games in Ohio, everyone is headed home for a few days for Christmas. Then we all fly to Portland, Oregon for the Les Schwab Tournament on the 26th – where we’ll face some more tough opponents. It will be a challenge, but hopefully the next time you hear from me we’ll be 20-0. Go Warriors!

  1. Just keeping up on you guys. I know Oak Hill basketball has a tradition of having good players and good basketball. I have been waiting for months for you guys to come to Ironton to play Walnut Ridge and Cincy Princeton. Cannot wait until next monday and tuesday sitting up at Ironton watching you guys.

Good Luck guys and good health the rest of the year!

  2. Thank you for your posts. They are very well done and a great way to keep up with Oak Hill.

Also, I cannot wait to see you play next year. I don’t live in Ohio, but love the Flyers, follow their games, and feel that you will be a great fit on a great team.

Best wishes and enjoy the Holidays at home.
