RJ’s Report: The First Month

By RJ Currington, Senior

Throughout the 2012-2013 season, oakhillhoops.com will feature personal stories from our players.

The First Month

I’m in the fourth week of my fifth and final year at Oak Hill, and I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by. I remember when I was an 8th grader moving in to the dorm. Now I’m a senior and will be in college next fall. I’m going to really miss this place. It’s like my second home.  I like the vibe this year though; everyone is cool. The dorm is really international, we got Vic, Gonzalo, Chris Tang, Hadim, and Rokas (Rock). Rock is the funniest for sure. Sindarius is right behind Rock, he’s hilarious. We got the boys from the East Coast Nate, Lennard and Troy. Then we got the Cali boys, Ike and Terrence. This senior year should be fun and exciting.

My classes are coming along fine so far. I’m in a few college level courses that will prepare me for next fall. All of my teachers are supportive and really want me to succeed, so if I’m having trouble, I know they’ll help me out after school. My English teacher is from around my way in Chicago, so we have that Chi-town connection.  The academics should be challenging, but fun at the same time.

On the basketball end of Oak Hill, the guys and I are going extremely hard on the court and in the weight room. Coach B’s got us doing all sorts of workouts. He keeps us charged – I like that. I like that we are really competitive too; we’re always going at it every day.  We’re coming along well, but we have a long way to go to repeat what we did last year.  We have a tough schedule but that’s why we’re here – to play the best and get better.  Let’s go Warriors!

(By the way, my birthday was on the 23rd…just throwing that out there.)
