By Pe’Shon Howard
Throughout the season, OakHillHoops.com features personal stories from our players.
November 20, 2009 — Hey everyone. I’m back! A lot has happened since my last entry. We’ve had a fast start (8-0). It’s great to be undefeated early in our season.
Thanksgiving Break started Saturday (11/21), and everyone was ready to go home and see their families. I hope everybody comes back to pick up where we left off both on and off the court…

Juwan Staten’s Diary #5 – Staying Strong
By Juwan Staten
November 12, 2009 — Yesterday was our fifth game of the season, and we played a school from North Carolina called Flora McDonald Academy. Despite having two players out sick (Pe`Shon and Marco), we played well.
The game was relatively close to start, but we soon dominated and pretty much put them away in the first half…
Juwan Staten’s Diary #4 – First Game
By Juwan Staten
November 4, 2009 — Saturday we opened our season at home against Central Carolina Academy. With most of the students gone because of Open Weekend, we still drew a pretty nice crowd.
From jump-ball on, we owned the game. We shot well from the floor and played fairly solid defense. Roscoe led all scorers with 24, Doron had 22, and I had 15. Baye had 8 blocks and 9 rebounds.

Hoops Notes: Storied Oak Hill tips season Saturday
by Jason Hickman
The NBA’s 2009-2010 schedule isn’t the only basketball action tipping off this week.
At storied Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) head coach Steve Smith’s Warriors begin their 39-game odyssey that will include contests in nine states Saturday night against Central Carolina Academy.
The Warriors, 40-1 a year ago with a trip to the National High School Invitational finals, have already scrimmaged against Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) and Stephen’s Prep (Raleigh, N.C.). Smith is upbeat about what he sees.
“I’m optimistic. We are playing better than I thought we would this early in the year,” Smith said. “We are not as deep, but I feel good about our top six or seven.”

The Hard Way
Diminutive point guard Jennings has taken a long and winding road to the NBA.
by Gary D’Amato of the Journal Sentinel
After signing his rookie National Basketball Association contract worth nearly $4.5 million with the Milwaukee Bucks, Brandon Jennings could have walked into any dealership showroom in the city and driven away in something that said he’d arrived.

Preseason Update from Coach Smith
We’ve had two good scrimmages in the past week. The first, against Hargrave Military Academy on 10/21, was productive, but showed we have some defensive things to work on in practice.
Here are some stats from Hargrave…
Pe’Shon Howard’s Diary #3 – Coming Together
By Pe’Shon Howard
October 28, 2009 — What’s up everyone?! The season is coming fast. Everything is starting to pick up. Last week we scrimmaged Bluefield College and won by 22. The team played well, everyone played hard and had fun. I love our chemistry and how we interact with each other.

Juwan Staten’s Diary #3 – Surprisingly Good
By Juwan Staten
October 16, 2009 — Thursday was our first scrimmage of the year. The emphasis all week in practice was execution on all plays so that we would be ready. As the time got closer and closer to 6:30pm/game time, I have to admit that I had some pre-game jitters. I know everyone was a little unsure on how we would look after only eight official practices…
Pe’Shon Howard’s Diary #2 – Gelling
By Pe’Shon Howard
October 5, 2009 — I’m back!! We are now in our second month of school. Workouts are good. We are going hard in the gym. The team is coming together really well!
Juwan Staten’s Diary #2 – Heating Up
By Juwan Staten
October 1, 2009 — So far school has been kind of easy. The work load has been hard, but basketball season hasn’t officially started, so we haven’t been overwhelmed with anything.
This weekend will be the first time in about four weeks that I have been home. I’m taking my official visit to the University of Dayton…
