The team will spend their Spring Break in March traveling to three Chinese provinces:  Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi.  Joining the Warriors on this tour will be teams from Australia, Lithuania and China.

The Warriors are thrilled to have such an amazing opportunity and are looking forward to their experience abroad.  Coach Steve Smith said, “It is an honor for our school and our team to be chosen to represent the USA.  Over the course of our 2011-12 season, we have played some of the best teams in our country.  Competing against some of greatest talent on a global scale will be an invaluable experience for our young athletes and great way to cap a successful season.”

This will be the fourth time an Oak Hill Academy basketball team has had the privilege of representing the United States on a global scale – 1986 (Virgin Islands), 1997 (Amsterdam).  Most recently, in 2004, the Warriors traveled to Barcelona, led by now NBA standouts Rajon Rondo and Josh Smith.  The 2004 Warriors went on to finish their season undefeated and won Oak Hill Academy’s seventh National Championship.

Oak Hill is currently 36-0 and ranked #1 in both the ESPN Rise and USA Today national polls.

The tournament Finals, and consolation game, will be televised live on ESPNU Friday night beginning at 7:00pm PST.

The Warriors take on Jesuit (OR) at 8:30pm PST.

September 30, 2011 – Oak Hill (Va.) Academy basketball coach Steve Smith has coached NBA all-stars like Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony, so he knows talent when he sees it.

And some of the very best, he said, is right here in Memphis.

Smith was on hand Thursday at the Westin Hotel downtown to help announce Penny Hardaway’s Hoopfest Benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Oak Hill, a perennial national powerhouse, is one of the teams that will be participating in the event, which will match teams from Memphis against top squads from around the nation.

“You go to New York, L.A. there are always the same three or four teams (that dominate),” Smith said. “Memphis has so many quality teams. … I’m excited to bring my team here. It’s the highlight of the year on our schedule.”

The annual NHSI tournament will be held Thursday, March 31st through Saturday, April 2nd at Georgetown Preparatory School’s Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence in Bethesda, MD. The tournament will feature some of the country’s best boys and girls high school basketball teams including top ranked FAB 50 ESPN RISE teams.

All NHSI telecasts on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will also be available online through ESPN3.com and ESPNnetworks.com.

The Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence is located at 10900 Rockville Pike in Bethesda, MD.

Tickets are available now at NHSI Hoops. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be available on game days at the Hanley Center box office.
