Location: Mouth of Wilson, Va.
2014-2015 Record: 47-1
Final Super 25: 2
The Warriors have a new slate from the squad that finished No. 2 in the Super 25 last season.
The biggest question is whether American Family Insurance ALL-USA forward Harry Giles, a 6-11 senior who averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds a game for Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.) last season, is able to come back at any point this season after a knee injury he suffered in the Warriors’ opener. The expectation is that he won’t be following knee surgery for what is being described as a slight ACL tear.
That puts more pressure on 6-8 small forward Mario Kegler (15.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg), a Jackson, Miss., native who played for Arlington County Day (Jacksonville, Fla.) last season. He is ranked No. 32 overall in the Class of 2016 by ESPN.
Other key players: junior point guard Devontae Shuler (25.5 ppg), a transfer from Irmo, S.C.; Alabama commit Braxton Key (20.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists), a 6-7 small forward who played for Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville) last season and was a two-time AA Mr. Basketball in Tennessee; senior 6-9 center Khadim Sy (6.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg), a Virginia Tech commit, was a backup with the Warriors last season; and Maury (Virginia Beach) transfer Matt Coleman, a 6-2 guard who averaged 20.3 points and 5.2 assists as a sophomore last season.
Scheduled season opener: Opened with a 88-43 win at Moravian Prep (Hudson, N.C.) on Tuesday. Plays host to Wesleyan Christian (High Point, N.C.) on Friday.
